NYC Shopping: E.L.F Cosmetics NYC Studio Haul

elf studio nyc

e.l.f has long been known for their affordable yet quality beauty products. For years their products were only available online but over time they made their way into physical stores through retailers like Target. Some time ago I heard about the opening of an e.l.f flagship store in NYC but honestly didn’t “jump” to go. I figured that since most of their products are already in Target, there was no need for me to make a separate trip to their store.

As life would have it, I ended up in the neighborhood with time to kill so I decided to check it out. Immediately I was pleasantly surprised. For one, there were soooo many products (much more than I expected), testers (amen for try before you buy) and helpful makeup artist giving advice (looking awesome in all elf products). To say I was elated would be an understatement. I somehow lost an hour of time in the store and picked up more products than I intended (I just came to window shop)!

I ended up buying the following products I’ve never used from elf:
-Blush Palette in Dark
-Complete Coverage Concealer in Dark
-Pressed Mineral Foundation in Dark
-Makeup Removal Pen in Clear

To be honest, I haven’t gotten around to throughly testing out my goodies from the haul, but as you know from my favorites post, I’m obsessed with the blush palette! I can’t wait to get around to using the other products more, fingers crossed they are just as bomb.

Must have Monday: Baggu Leather Tote

BAGGU leather tote

You know how sometimes you pass by a stranger wearing something so insanely perfect for YOU, you can’t help but stare? Living in New York City, where the average person dresses like the are walking on some invisible catwalk, this happens about a million times a day. More often than not the person is too far, the train is too crowded, etc for you to ask them where they got it from without coming off as a total “stranger danger”.

Recently I had an especially bad case of bag envy when I saw a girl on the train with the most buttery leather tote I’ve ever seen in my life. I couldn’t help but stare at the bag as it effortlessly added chicness and cool to this random girl’s life by it’s mere existence. I locked eyes (err umm “strap”?) with the bag the whole one stop till I had to get off and get to work. I wistfully thought about the bag on my walk and made a mental note to keep an eye out for something similar. Fast forward a few days later, I walked into Urban Outfitters and to my gleeful surprise I was tearfully reunited with this amazing beautiful bag.

It turns out this angelic bag is made by a company named “BAGGU“. I had never heard of it but according to Urban’s website it’s a “Brooklyn-based reusable bag company” that started in 2007 and specializes in making high-quality canvas and leather bags. The bags are also lead-free and ethically made, if you’re into that (and who wouldn’t be?)

After “visiting” this bag, three times last week, I’ve decided to go ahead and purchase it as a happy first of the month present to myself. And before you ask, yes, that is a thing… at least now it is ;)

Lusting like me? Check the bag in different colors below and click to purchase your favorite one.  You can also get this bag at Shopbop, Urban Outfitters, or the BAGGU site itself.

Fashion in the News: Forever 21 Launches Deeper Discount Store F21 Red

forever21storeIf you follow fashion news (or the buzz on budget blogs) you’ve been anticipating for a few weeks now Forever21’s new even lower priced store, F21 Red. The concept behind F21 Red is said to be providing basics at deeper discounted prices (as if Forever21 wasn’t cheap enough). The first F21 Red store officially launched this past Saturday in the Azalea Shopping Center just outside of Los Angeles, California. Prices have been reported ranging from $1.80 (camisoles) up to $7.80 for denim. Forever 21 hasn’t yet announced any plans to roll out more F21 Red stores and appears to be using this first store to test the market.

Interestingly enough, this new store comes just as other retail chains also are working on possible lower priced stores such as J Crew’s “Mercantile” and Abercrombie and Fitch’s plan to change Hollister to a cheaper fast fashion brand.

Comment below and share your thought on this new store? Are you excited to see an even more budget friendly version of Forever 21?

Phillip Lim for Target Collection Launch

The Phillip Lim for Target collection is launching online and in stores today as most designer collab enthusiast are already well aware of. As a precursor to the launch, Target held a “Phillip Lim for Target” collection party in Manhattan last week. I was there to view the collection (and the mayhem) and survived to tell about it.

By the time I got inside the party around 8pm, the clothing racks had seem seriously ramsacked and the bags were only a whispered rumor. I contemplated picking up the “drop dress” but had to reconsider when I saw the immense line.

As I wondered around trying to get a good look at as many pieces as possible so I could form my plan of attack for when the collection went online, I stumbled across Jessica Alba looking amazing as ever in the “boom print sweatshirt” and navy tuxedo pants.

Overall the event was great and I am really impressed by a lot of items in the collection. Although I have a hunch a lot of the print items are going to be very popular (be ready to see everyone walking around in sweaters that say “boom” soon), I gravitated more towards the solid print/work wear appropriate items.

Saturday night/ early Sunday morning I engaged in #Limsanity with the rest of the twitter world to get all of the pieces I saw and wanted. Through diligent twitter stalking and insomnia I was able to score the following:

5 Jewelry Trends For Summer 2013

20130719-134044.jpg

Summer 2013 is in full swing, and that might mean you’ve got your warm weather wardrobe all figured out. After all, you’ve probably been bombarded with news about the latest trends for the last several months – you know that neon colors are in, striped tops are all the rage, and oversized sunglasses are, once again, as trendy as can be. But if you’re looking for a couple of fun finishing touches for your summer wardrobe, you can still get the job done with a simple piece of jewelry here or there. So here are 5 summer jewelry tips to help round out your outfits!

1. Neon Highlights
Just as neon is trendy in tops and other summer garments, casual jewelry with neon highlights can really pull your look together. Whether it’s a few artificial beads colored brightly and vibrantly, or a neon band around part of a bracelet or earring, the lightest touch of bright color can make a bold fashion statement.

2. Pendants
A pendant can mean just about anything, but the general trend of dangling a decorative object at the end of a necklace seems to be red hot this summer. Whether that means something rustic like an old key hanging from a threat, or something fancier like a necklace featuring a white gold chain and diamond pendant is up to you. But either piece can be perfect for the right environment. Use this trend to express yourself through a pendant with some personal meaning!

3. Geometric Pieces
This is another trend that’s essentially wide open to interpretation, but you know the general idea: plated necklaces of interlocking geometric shapes, necklaces with dangling metallic shapes, etc. Stark, clear geometric patterns are everywhere you look in jewelry trends this summer though, so be sure to stock up on a piece or two in this category.

4. Gems, Raw Stones & Beads
The bottom line is, colored stones are hot this summer. Your interpretation of that is totally up to you! Whether you opt for colored gemstones for a fancier look, raw stones for an elegant beach appearance, or cheap beads for a casual look around town, you can always have fun with color.

5. Animal Themes
Finally, for the quirkiest in summer jewelry trends, animal themes are very popular. This can mean a lot of different things, from a gemstone bird hanging from an earring, to a bracelet designed as a snake consuming itself. This is more of a niche trend, so it’s best to just get out and see what you find, rather than plan a shopping trip in advance.
