How to Apply BlushI’ll be honest, if I’m not wearing blush I feel pretty basic. I can’t stand to see the sight of me with makeup on without blush, it somehow just seems wrong to me. While there is no one right way to apply blush, there certainly are several wrong ways to do it. I’ll never forget back in high school when a friend saw me after applying my blush and told me that I looked like a “red brick.” The statement was a bit rude but the message was clear: what ever I was doing with my blush was not working. After that I stayed away from blush until I learned how to properly apply it.

Blush is something that I think a lot of woman shy away from because it seems difficult or unnecessary, both of which couldn’t be further from the truth. Keep reading to see a tips and tricks on how to apply blush, trust me, it will take your face to a whole new level.

1. The Fish: Okay so maybe that’s not a great name for it but you’ll understand why I call it this. To do this technique you suck in your cheeks to make a “fish face” then apply blush directly to the hollows of your cheeks. This is the technique I personally use and love because it looks really natural.

2. The Apple: This is the first technique that I learned and while I’m not the biggest fan of it, it’s still effective. To do this technique you make a huge kool-aid man style smile and then apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. In my mind this is the classic way to apply blush but be careful because it’s easier to go overboard with this technique.

3. The Dap: The last technique is probably the least “techniquey” of the three (and doesn’t involve twisting your face into any shapes). To do this technique you take a blush brush and start dapping lightly just above your checkbones and downward towards your mouth (making sure to stop atleast an inch away from your mouth).

I agree! I always have to be wearing blush. A great blush is a must and a variety of blushes is a must, too. Love this post!

Totally agree that applying to the apples of the cheek can easily look overdone. I like to use the dabbing method just because you have so much control over where and how much blush you are applying. Great post!

Totally agree. I feel naked walking out without blush on. I recently have all my love for cream blushes :) I normally apply it to the top of my cheekbones or if I’m not wearing a contour slightly contour with blush instead :)
