May Beauty Favorites 2015

May Beauty Favorites

Do you ever “shop” your own makeup collection? Over the years I’ve gotten into a routine with my makeup and tend to use the same makeup over and over. So this month I really pushed myself to try some of the products collecting dust items outside of my go to list. There’s been some misses, but overall several hits and many of them made it to my May Beauty Favorites list. There are so many products that I’m happy to have tried for the first time or recently rediscovered. Keep reading to see my May Beauty Favorites.
L’Oreal Infallible pro spray and set: This is one drugstore gem I’ve had on my vanity table for quite awhile and just finally got around to using. My usual setting spray ran out so I decided to give it a go and I’m so glad that I did. The spray get’s the job done without breaking me out.
Cover Fx Matte setting Powder: I got this product along with my CoverFx foundation drops a couple of weeks back. I find myself using this whenever I go out, even if I’m not wearing foundation to help keep shine at bay. My favorite time to use this is under my eyes whenever I use a highlighter concealer. I under my eyes to help it look more natural.
Pop Beauty Lip Plumper in “Honey Rose”: Plump lips might be a thing right now thanks to Kylie Jenner, but it’s something I’ve always had naturally so rarely ventured to try any lip plumpers. I loved the packaging and color of this product so I decided to give this one a try. I’m so happy that I did because it’s a perfect better than bare nude lip gloss.
NYX Matte liquid liner: In the ten years I’ve been wearing liquid liner I’ve had the same favorite one. Despite trying countless other eyeliners, I’ve never tried one that compared to the NYC liquid liner until now. I love this liner and how easy it is to apply, definitely makes me feel like a winged eyeliner champ.
Milani Blush in Luminoso: This may be my favorite of all on my May Beauty Favorites list. I bought this blush years ago after a Youtuber recommend it and never really used it. I grabbed this recently on accident and discovered it’s the perfect  non shimmery everyday highlighter.
Sephora Full Coverage Airbrush: Don’t let the name of this brush confuse you, it has nothing to do with those spray airbrush makeups. I got this brush during the makeup show and have been loving it as a brush for my highlighter. The shape and bristles make it perfect for adding just the right amount to only the areas you want to highlight.

Overall I’ve had a ton of fun forcing myself to try “new” products outside of my normal go-tos. Comment below and let me know if you’ve tried any of these products? What were your May Beauty Favorites?

Review: Givenchy Mister Mat Mattifying Primer

Givenchy Mister Mat Review

Now that the warm weather is finally here it’s time to start complaining managing the effects of the heat. For me my number one concern during the warmer months is keeping shine and sweat at bay (okay that’s technically two things but they go hand and hand). I’ve tried countless shine reducing products in the past, and continue to test out new ones. Think of me as the Indiana Jones of mattifying products. The trick to staying matte is to “layer up” with your products so I like to use multiple oil control products at once. I have a great oil control lotion from Murad that I’m currently using, but I’m still on the hunt for my perfect mattifying primer.

Recently while cruising the aisles at Sephora (pretty much my only hobby), I was chit chatting with one of the makeup artist and got to discussing primers. She insisted that the best mattifying one currently in the biz was the Givenchy Mister Mat. Never one to turn down a free sample, I took it home and tested it. After a week of meticulously stretching the tiny sample, I went back and purchased the full size product.

Product: The Mister Mat primer is suppose to be light weight and breathable while still mattifying the face; I can say that it definitely delivered in those areas. My favorite thing about the Mister Mat primer is the fact that it came up completely clear on my skin without leaving a “film” or “ashy look” like some other primers have tried in the past.

How to Conceal Under Eye Circles

There is nothing more frustrating than waking up to find that your under eyes have been very unforgiving. Of course, everyone wants to wake up and look impossibly fresh, concealing the fact that you only had about two hours of sleep. (Finals and the best night ever with friends will do that to you!) Concealing those pesky circles and discoloration under your eyes can be a pain, but there are some simple tips that make this process so much simpler.

  1. The first trick that I absolutely swear by is using a frozen spoon to shrink any puffiness under your eyes. It is a simple part of my morning routine and all I do is quickly throw a spoon into the freezer for about 10 to 15 minutes and then apply the back of it to the circles under my eyes. Leave the spoon there until it is no longer cold to the touch and the puffiness will drastically go down.
  2. Next is applying your concealer. Choosing the right concealer and knowing your skin is very important for achieving a natural look. You want to choose a light cream concealer and stay away from products that would dry out your skin. A perfect product to try without break the bank is the Fit Me Concealer by Maybelline. This product is very light and a perfect jumping off point for concealer beginners. Already a concealing pro? Try the MAC Mineralize Concealer for a clean and fresh look.
  3. Setting your product is another important step in achieving your impossibly fresh look. Simply set your concealer using a small amount of translucent powder and you’re ready to take on your day!

These simple steps are easy enough to add to your everyday routine and create a flawless face. Let us know in the comments below how these products and tips worked for you!

Trend to Try: The Naked Manicure

Zoya Naked Manicure2

Experimenting with nail designs and polish finishes can be fun. But sometimes we’re just in the mood for a good old fashion bare nail. Such was the case recently during Greg Lauren’s AW15 NYFW show. Greg wanted each models’ manicure to look like “the best version of their own natural nails.” Normally that would mean bare but why be bare when you can go naked! He loved the look of a perfected nail with a closest to natural satin finish so he enlisted the help of Zoya lead nail technician, Cinnamon Bowser to help create a “Naked mani”.

How To:

Prep the nail by shaping, gently buffing and cleaning up cuticles. To give a smooth finish, apply two layers of Naked Manicure Blush Perfector™ followed by one coat along the natural white tip to brighten and correct the free edge. Then, use the Satin Seal Top Coat™ to blend the layers to finalize the look with a soft satin finish. The end result is a clean bare, yet still finished looking nail!

Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar Review

The power of charcoal is all the latest rage in the beauty world these days, and of course I had to give in and test out a few of these fun new products! There are numerous products containing charcoal available today, there are beauty masks, pore strips and facial scrubs. But out of all these products (and after having a ton of fun testing them out with my roomies!) the best product, in my opinion, is the Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar.

beauty bar

The main reason that this product is the one to purchase is because this one bar is a facial scrub, pore strip and beauty mask all in one. It contains minerals that give the bar a graininess and helps buff away dead skin and other impurities and has an uplifting peppermint scent which is great for any shower experience. And most importantly it draws out excess oil that leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh, while others can leave your face feeling tight. It is perfect for those with acne prone skin and is a safe and cheap alternative to other expensive products.

This beauty bar is insanely simple to use, all you have to do is bring the bar to a light lather and scrub gently over your skin in the shower. Rinse well and enjoy fabulously soft and rejuvenated skin. One quick tip about this product: do not use more than 3 or 4 times a week. While this product is great for stripping your face of excess oil, you do not want to overuse this product and leave your skin without the oils it needs to be healthy. This is definitely a product that I will be re-purchasing and keeping in my shower for a while!

This product retails for about $7 at Ulta Beauty or your local drug store.

If plan on trying out this product or have tried it before, then leave a comment below and let us know how well it worked for you! Happy cleansing!

Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know For Graduation Day

GraddGraduation day. It’s the day that you’ve been counting down for weeks, months, or hey…maybe even years. Tears will be shed, smiles will be shared, and pictures will be snapped. I’ve come up with a few tips every gal graduate should know for the big…(and ridiculously slow during the ceremony) day. If you’re the graduate or even the parent of a graduate, keep reading!

1) Uncomfortable Shoes– Do not, I repeat, do not try to flaunt those brand spanking new sexy black pumps on graduation day. Most likely, you will be standing for hours before you get to sit down during the ceremony and you will be sorry! Plus, I don’t know about you…but I can’t imagine dreaming about falling down the stage as I receive my diploma. If you need to buy a new pair of shoes, I suggest a boatload of band-aids and wedges with straps! The more straps, the more support. Plus, wedges are super cute and much easier to walk in.

2) No Sunscreen In Foundation/Moisturizer– Avoid wearing a foundation or moisturizer with sunscreen in it. SPF reflects light, so when you take pictures at graduation, the flash will wash your face out and you’ll turn out very ghostly.

3)Waterproof, Waterproof!- It’s almost a given to wear waterproof eyeliner/mascara when you’re planning on getting a little emotional. You don’t want a total makeup-meltdown when you realize you’ll never see that cute boy in the hallway you’ve seen everyday for the past four years, ha!

4) Classic Look– Graduation means pictures, and pictures being taken mean being able to look back at them in 15 years. You’ll regret wearing that super over-the-top makeup trend so I suggest going for a classic look. A smokey eye and pink/red lips are perfect. On this note, don’t overdo your makeup! If your graduation is outside, you’ll be sweating your face off.

5)Set, No Bump, No Spike!- To avoid a complete mess on your face and others faces, I recommend a setting spray. Pssst… listen closely, lightly spraying your face with hairspray works great for a temporary setting spray.

I went to social media to find out if fellow graduates had beauty tips for the big day too and here’s what I discovered!

“Make sure you’re showered and clean before graduation” – Katelyn

“If you have graduation outside, you will be out for a really long time in the heat, avoid overdoing makeup or it will come off by the end” -Shree

“Less is better. Something light, big lashes with natural contouring looks the best. Don’t wanna take away from the cap & gown!” -Sarah

“Pin your cap to your hair with bobby pins!! & put your name on the inside” -Taylor

Definitely a good ice facial – best for all skin types! -@Complexionme

Let me know in the comments below if you have any tips of your own and to the soon-to-be graduates, enjoy the time you have left and good luck!
