That 70’s Trend

Don’t worry disco isn’t making a comeback, but the trends of the 1970’s certainly has been heating up the runways of many spring collections. From Valentino to Derek Lam, these major designers have flashed back to this groovy era to create some incredible new looks.

This spring season will be full of wide-leg pants, a fresh new take on the peasant dress and other stylish 70’s looks. Rocking this trend is all about keeping it simple and incorporating subtle hints of the 1970’s into your overall look. Remember, this isn’t a 70’s themed mixer so try and control yourself when falling in love with these bell-bottom jeans all over again.

An easy addition to your wardrobe is the wide-leg pant. This piece is perfect for dressing up a casual day out and great for every trend setter at the office. Try heading to H&M and picking up this sophisticated black pair for only $35. Looking for something more casual? Try these wide leg Rag and Bone jeans from Nordstrom; or this stylish wide leg jumpsuit from Necessary Clothing for a fun stylish weekend look.

Another must have 70’s item is the peasant dress. If you’re looking for a fun and easy-breezy look this summer you can’t go wrong with a peasant dress. These dresses can be dressed up or down and are a comfortable piece that will quickly become a staple in any wardrobe. Dip into this trend with this dress from SWELL for only $50.

How To Get Longer Looking Lashes

Eyelashes. Where would we be without them? When voluminous and long, they complete a full face of makeup or are just a nice touch to a naked face kind of day. Although I have no super essential mascara preference, I am currently loving Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced and Maybelline’s Colossal. With family and friends convinced I wear fake lashes (I don’t), I have some great tips to share with you to get your eyelashes looking amazing.Capture

1) Before you start coating your lashes like usual, apply mascara to the top of your lashes. So many people skip this step and it’s seriously a life changer! It makes your eyelashes look like you just put on a pair of fake lashes. Just be careful not to put too much or else it will start to get clumpy.

2) When applying your mascara, start from the root of your lashes and work up. Make sure to wiggle your brush for the best results. Wiggle and shimmy like there’s no tomorrow, chica!

3) Curl your lashes. Use an eyelash curler or if you’re like me and don’t own one, use your fingers. After coating your lashes, wait about 1-2 minutes, and press your lashes up with your fingers. It works wonders and you can totally tell the difference!

4) Now, this tip might sound a little weird, but trust me on this one! Apply a coat of mascara and then a light amount of pressed powder onto your lashes. After, apply more mascara. This will keep the mascara from flaking and make them look fuller and thicker.

5) Massage your eyelids around your lash line. It stimulates growth and gets you longer lashes in no time. Not only does this work for eyelashes, but hair too. Massaging your scalp or even brushing your hair works wonders. My hair would always grow so slow, but ever since I started brushing my hair like a crazy woman two years ago, it grows like wildfire! I love it (except when it comes to retouching my roots)!

6) Eat! Eating healthy and getting all the vitamins you need to keep healthy is essential for hair growth. An important trace element you should keep in mind is silicon. It promotes hair growth and it keeps you healthy. Silicon is found in asparagus, cucumbers, green beans, olives, rice, and oats.

What to Wear for Easter 2015

Easter may not be a holiday famous for fashion, but it most definitely should be! It’s a time when spring has just arrived and summer is right around the corner. Holidays mean family and friend time, so why wouldn’t you want to look good? You gotta dress to impress this Easter for family, friends, and most importantly, the Easter bunny and with these outfit ideas, it’ll be easy breezy!

Starting off, I absolutely adore this color palette. The blue and orange go so well together and the nude handbag/shoes calm everything down. If it gets a little chilly, just put on a cute, light white cardigan.Easter Outfit 1If dresses aren’t really your thing, this second outfit is perfect for you! With a white loose blouse and a pop of color in the pants, people will be hop-hop-hopping over to ask you where you got this outfit from! The pastel pink and mint green go oh so well together and the brown wedges are just to die for! Easter Outfit 2

Hope everyone who celebrates has a great Easter and let us know in the comments if you have any go to Easter outfits!

Product Review: CoverFx Contour Kit

Product Review: CoverFx Contour Kit (shade N Deep)
Product Description: This Cover FX Contour Kit features four ultra-blendable shades of the pro-contouring favorite Total Cover Cream Foundation. The Contour Kit comes in six global shades based on depth and undertone so that every skin has an ideal match, it includes a step-by-step instruction card to ensure perfect results. I swatched my shade which is N Deep.
Packaging: It comes in a square palette with four shades which makes it really handy to carry around with you!
Ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Diisostearyl Malate, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Silica, Synthetic Beeswax, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Cera Carnauba, Cire de carnauba), Squalane, Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprate, Triacontanyl PVP, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tocopherol, Tribehenin, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Bisabolol, Phytosphingosine, Ethyl Linoleate, Ethyl Linolenate, Ceramide NG, PEG-10 Phytosterol, Ethyl Oleate, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12, Triethoxycaprylylsilane (+/-) Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288).
Application: So full disclosure, when I first received the product I wasn’t exactly sure how I was suppose to use all four shades on just my one face. It was obvious what the contour color was, but I wondered why I had THREE other highlight colors. My first time applying it I only used shade 4 to contour and shade 2 for a shimmer highlight. I didn’t know how best to apply it so I just went ahead and used my fingers. My results were just ok. Flash forward to a week later, I tried the product again after “talking shop” with some makeup artists about how it could be used. This time I used a short dense foundation brush to apply it and opted to skip the foundation under it. Instead I used shade 1 to highlight under my eyes, shade 3 for spot concealer coverage, shade 4 to contour and shade 2 as a highlight. The result was surprisingly amazing!! I was able to do a full face using only one product. I’m not sure if this is how it was actually designed to be used but it works great for me! This product is now a must for me whenever I travel because I can carry one product instead of four and not have to worry about caring any liquids.
Price: $48.00
Rating: 4/5
I love this product and will definitely use it as a staple when I am traveling. The only thing I don’t love about this product is the way the packing starts to get a little messy the more you use it. It’s very hard not to get any makeup outside the circle of the palette, which goes against all the kindergarten lessons of not coloring outside the lines. Overall I would recommend this product. If you’re interested in trying it you can get it at Sephora

What’s in Her Makeup Bag: Jackie of FiveTwoBeauty

As much as I love sharing my favorite beauty products, I enjoy learning about other people’s favorites just as much! Sometimes I see someone with great makeup and wonder to myself..what’s in her makeup bag?? So with that in mind I decided to start a new series interviewing real woman and the products they use the most. First up is Jackie of the beauty blog, Fivetwobeauty. Keep reading to see what product she currently keeps with her on the go.

Jackie Five two beauty

What type of “bag” actually makes up your makeup bag (I.e cosmetics bag, ziploc bag, items floating around the bottom of you’re purse, etc.)

I grab for a huge cosmetic bag when I know I will be out a lot throughout the week. And if I am just carrying a small purse, I grab my essentials and just stuff them in my purse.

If you had to guesstimate, how many items are currently in your makeup bag?

Without looking right now I have more than 10 items.

What are these items?

  • CoverFX concealer
  • Mally Beauty Dark Circle Corrector
  • Juicy Couture perfume sample in Hollywood Royale
  • Pacifica Coconut Water cleansing wipes
  • Bath and Body Works Pocket Bac Anti-bacterial hand gel in Vanilla Berry Sorbet
  • CLEANSE 1 facial cleansing wipe sachet
  • Inglot Felt tip eyeliner
  • Jessie’s Girl liquid liner
  • Sephora 5-pc travelling eyeshadow brush pen
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz
  • Supergood Sunscreen
  • Nars satin lip pencil in Rikugien
  • OCC lip pencil in Lydia
  • ColourPop Lippie pencil in Bichette
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion
  • POPSUGAR Mystery mascara sample (it was revealed this is the Benefit Roller Lash)
  • Mistura brush
    Jackies makeup bag

How often does it change?

Every few weeks. The products I have right now in my bag, I have been using for the past 3 weeks.

What’s your biggest “splurge” item?

Biggest splurge would be the Hourglass Ambient Palette. *I received a giftcard and so I didn’t hesitate and went for it!

Without a giftcard my next biggest splurge would be my Charlotte Tilburry Luxury quad Palette in Vintage Vamp and Cheek-to-Chic blush in Love Is The Drug

What’s your best “fancy frugal” item?

My best fancy frugal item would be my Marc Jacobs “The Starlet” palette and Hourglass “Dim Infusion” lighting blush which I bought from Poshmark for a really great price. *Both items I guarantee you are the real products and not imitations.

God forbid your makeup bag was lost or stolen; which item would you be most upset about losing?

I would be most upset in losing my ABH Brow Wiz pencil.

Because that is my favorite brow pencil of all time!

If you’re running late and don’t have time to do your typical makeup routine, what item do you quickly put on before running out the door?

I quickly put on some Cover FX Concealer, Mally Beauty Poreless Perfection glowing foundation then finish off by highlighting with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette and some lip balm.

I have a lot of acne scars I would like to cover up and some redness to conceal. The Ambient Lighting Palette gives back some glow to my skin which makes it look healthy even I am lacking blush or lip color.

What if anything do you think your makeup bag says about you?

I think it says I can’t leave the house without a lot of these products! I am surprised how much I do still need because in my head I thought I really can go throughout my day without a lot of the products I have in my makeup bag!

3 Spring 2015 Beauty Trends From SS15 Fashion Week

SS15 beauty trends Collage

Spring is officially here although winter seems to be having a few last words. To help kickstart my spring beauty looks this year I took a look back at the Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion Week shows. Keep reading to see my roundup of the three biggest beauty trends sure to be loved this season.

Tamed Tresses: The middle part is a must for hair this spring. Opt for either silky sleek texture or wind blown wisps and tousled. If hair has to go up, keep it in a relaxed updo- unless it’s a tight low bun which is still a classic (think Dolce & Gabanna). Simple styles such as side braids with ruffled texture are also an option this spring.

No Makeup Makeup: Less is more, and even less is even better. Take a cue from Marc Jacobs SS15 show where models were sent down the runway practically make-up free. Vibrant skin with natural tones on eyes and lips will have people believing you really “woke up like this”.

Line by Line: To compliment your fresh face look, eyeliner is a must. Cateyes were seen on several runways during SS15. If bold color is a must, do like CUTECIRCUIT and smolder eyes with a bright turquoise, but keep lips at a natural color. For bold color, the keyword is balance; pick either the eyes or lips to pop, but not both.

3 DIY Simple Ways to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Let’s face it, when you use your makeup brushes every day there comes a point when they could definitely use a little TLC. Don’t worry, no judgments here because we have all been there! Luckily, we have some simple and inexpensive tips to help restore your brushes to their former glory.

1. Our first simple and easy way to clean your favorite makeup brushes is to use a bar of soap. Of course not just any bar of soap will do, we recommend a bar of unscented Dove soap because it does not contain the harsh ingredients that other bars do and it also contains conditioners and moisturizers that will help keep the bristles of your brushes soft. Simply wet your Dove Beauty bar under the faucet and then wet the bristles of your makeup brush. Be extra careful not to totally submerge your makeup brush in water, because if you get water into the barrel of your brushes your bristles could begin to fall out. Eek! We definitely wouldn’t want that! Simply massage the bristles of your brush onto the Dove bar and gently rinse them off. Shape your brushes back into your desired shape and then lay them flat on a towel to dry overnight.

2. If our last method didn’t quite strike your fancy, try these easy steps to get your brushes fabulous and fluffy again. Just mix 1 ½ cups warm water, 1 Tbsp. of diluted baby shampoo, and 5 drops of tea tree oil in a small dish. All you need to do is scrub off any old makeup, rinse well, shape and then lay flat to dry.

3. Our last tip for cleaning your makeup brushes is also our simplest. Fill your sink about ¼ of the way with warm water and add Ology’s Lavender Pure Castile Multi-Purpose soap (you can easily find this product at your local drugstore). Mix the soap around with your hands until you see suds beginning to form and you’re ready to begin cleaning. Use your fingers to scrub off the makeup and then rinse well. Just like our other steps, form into your desired shape and lay flat to dry.

With these easy steps, your brushes will be as soft and perfect as the first day you bought them. Not into DIY? You can also purchase ready made brush cleaners like the Sephora brand daily brush cleanser or this MAC brush cleanser. What you choose to do, just remember to try and deep clean your brushes at least once or twice a month to help keep your skin radiant and clear. Happy cleaning!

What to Wear to a Spring Brunch

Today is officially the first day of spring and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that spring has finally arrived than by going to a weekend brunch!  After finding the best location to brunch at (if you’re in NYC you should check out this place), it’s time to find the perfect outfit! Brunch is all about being casual and comfortable, but still chic and fashionable! For the spring, light and pastel colors are perfect to wear to brunch.

What to wear to a spring brunch

A Diane Von Furstenberg daytime wrap dress is the perfect example of a dress to wear to a spring brunch. Paired with casual heels or sleek boots, this style dress is figure flattering and forgiving. To pull this chic look together add a small clutch and stud earrings!

What to wear to brunch in the spring

This second outfit is perfect for those chilly spring days. Wear wide leg pants paired with a simple shirt and light weight boyfriend trench coat to stay warm and cozy while brunching. Tie the whole look together with chunky heels and a small statement bag.

7 Hair Myths That Aren’t True

Hair is as personal as it is public, that’s probably why so many women and men pay plenty of time and attention to maintaining their mane throughout their lifetime. How many times have you sat in a hairstylist’s chair and have been told conflicting hair tips? Blast your hair with cold water at the end of your wash to seal the cuticle for shiny hair, or when your hairstylist says to make sure you come back within 3 months for the next trim to promote hair growth and health. With so many opinions on hair maintenance, who knows what to believe?

We’ve compiled some hair tips that we have all heard time and time again, but after some research we have come to find these tips may not be as helpful as we thought.

Myth #1: If one gray hair is plucked, two more will grow.

If you pluck away one hair strand, only one will grow back no matter what color the hair is.

Myth #2: Regular, frequent trims will help hair grow faster.

Hair growth is based off hormones, not hair trims. Hair grows about half an inch a month whether it is cut regularly or not.

Myth #3: Wash your hair every day.

It is not necessary to wash hair everyday. In fact, washing it every day can cause natural hair oil to build up, resulting in the opposite effect.

Myth #4: Hair should be shampooed twice during one wash.

Shampooing more than once in the same shower can strip hair from its natural oils, resulting in lackluster, over burdened hair.

Myth #5: If your hair is naturally oily, skip conditioner.

Oily hair is caused by the excess production of sebum in the scalp. Using conditioner will not contribute to more oil production.

Myth #6: Sunrays don’t damage hair.

The UV rays from the sun can dry out hair causing it to feel weak. Use a hat on the beach to avoid the risk of sun burning your sensitive scalp.

Myth #7: Switch shampoos regularly to see best results.

Hair will not get used to using the same shampoo over and over again. It is not necessary to keep changing shampoo types and brands in order to maintain healthy, optimal hair.
