Style Steal: Noon by Noor A/W15 NYFW Runway Look

This past NYFW may be over, but the beauty looks are here to stay! This season I went backstage at Noon by Noor to get the how to’s of the models’ runway look. To match the aesthetics of the no fuss Noon by Noor woman; MAC makeup artist Tiffany Johnston created a whimsical yet very wearable makeup look. Each model sported a natural face with metallic eyeliner in silver, bronze, or lavender for a pop of color. By varying the eyeliner color to fit the girl’s natural beauty, Johnston created an individualized yet cohesive group.

Keeping with the theme of natural beauty Zoya Creative Director, Rebecca Isa conceptualized an “ethereal nude that complements all skin tones, with a hint of glimmer.” To get this nude but better look Zoya nail tech, Cinnamon Bowser, created a “custom” nude for all the models by pairing shade Glimmer over Abril. The result was a well polished refined nude that reflected the femininity of the collection while matching each model’s skin tone instantly.

Lastly, the hair was inspired by the multi- texture of the clothes and was styled minimally with a part and increased texture towards the bottom. The simplistically of the hair further served to accentuate the makeup and clothes.

Get the Look:
Makeup: Take a MAC powder pigments in (silver, bronze, or lavender) and use a eyeliner makeup brush dipped in water to apply the pigment as liquid eyeliner.

Nails: Begin by using ZOYA Anchor Base Coat to ensure nails are smooth for polish application. Very carefully paint the bottom part of the nail, closest to the cuticle, with ZOYA in Avril. Let dry for a moment and follow up with a coat of ZOYA in Glimmer. Let nails dry and enjoy the glossy, nude sheen.

Hair: Part hair in the middle or side and allow natural texture to show.
And there you have it, a beautiful natural makeup look straight from the runway! To learn more about Noon by Noor check out my previous coverage of their fashion week show.

How to Protect Your Hair in the Winter

  1. Wear a satin-lined hat - Protect your hair when out in the elements by wearing a protective hat as blistery winds tend to dry hair. LookRain, sleet or snows are notmoisturizing. Hat hair? Keep a small travel blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron at your desk to quickly add some instant volume or touch up. You can also opt for loosely braiding, looping hair into large pin curls or a ponytail to keep hair hidden yet providing style after you remove your hat.
  2. Use a humidifier - Keep hair from getting dry by using a humidifier. No matter what heating system you have, it tends to be dry on both your hair and skin. Also, avoid long hot showers; instead opt for a more comfortable temperature to not dry your hair out.
  3. Minimize shampooing – as much as possible, extend the periods between washing hair. When you do, use a moisturizing shampoo or a cowash conditioner which is gentle while cleansing your hair.
  4. Use oil daily - hair that is deficient of moisture will require ample rejuvenation and hydration to adequately return its chemistry to a reclaimed state of health. Oil will help alleviate the damage of wintery conditions, a time when it’s best to use lightweight products so your hair won’t be weighed down.
  5. Deep condition once a week – to rejuvenate and repair, it’s recommended to deep condition. This is important as the weather gets colder because our hair tends to dry out. A masque deeply nourishes and repairs hair with essential vitamins and antioxidants that work to improve the hairs overall luster and appearance. Plus, don’t forget to get a trim every 4-6 weeks to help revive your ends and remove dryness or split ends.
  6. Drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods – foods rich in healthy monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish, nuts, olive oil, flax, sardines, and avocados will help beautify your strands. Also, don’t forget your vitamin C, fruits and vegetables. Healthy hair starts from the inside.

Product Review: e.l.f mineral infused face primer in Radiant Glow

Product Description: Fills in fine lines and creates a flawless finish. Ideal for all skin types that want a luminous glow. Prepares your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a lasting satin finish.
Packaging: The product itself comes in a semi-matte clear pump applicator bottle that provides easier, more sanitary usage. The packaging is simple and chic, making it look more expensive.
Experience: I bought this product on a whim from a drugstore after the beauty consultant recommended it. I couldn’t try it first but figured for the price I would give it ago.I tried it the very next day as I rushed to work by taking a pump of the primer and mixing it with an equal part of my Clinique stay matte foundation and rubbing it all over my face like a tinted moisturizer. I loved the natural my skin but slightly better/glowy look that I got. Considering I didn’t put anything else on my face, I was pleasantly surprised how great it held up throughout the day. The next time I tried it was over the weekend so I had more time to actually do my makeup. I applied it all over my face as a primer this time without mixing it with anything. Then I put on my Bobbi Brown foundation stick over it with a beauty blender sponge. The effect was just as great if not better.
Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone,Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Phenoxyethanol May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Tin Oxide (CI 77861)
Price: Cheap. Like less than $10
Rating: 4.8/5 (Almost so good I want to keep it a secret!!)
So far the only thing I would change about this primer is adding SPF. Besides that one tiny wish I have no complaints. This product gives my skin a beautiful glow, minus any annoying glitter.. So basically it’s my new best friend. The Elf mineral infused face primer comes in a total of four shades, each with their own skin perfecting purpose.
Wanna try it too? Get it here !

What to Wear this Weekend: Sweater Dresses and Boots

Sweater Dress and Boots Collage

With most of the country experiencing colder than usual temperatures, it can be difficult to figure out something cute to wear. While staying home all weekend in a onesie would be ideal, many of us will need to leave the house for errands, meetings, and most importantly…brunch. Luckily I got your back! As someone who is perpetually colder than most people (I basically keep the heater on year round) I’ve come up with endless ways to stay warm without sacrificing style. My holy grail combo?…Sweater dresses and boots. This weekend, if you have to bare the cold, try pairing a thick sweater dress over sturdy tights and over the knee boots.

Need more inspiration? Check out this previous post I did on transitioning your dresses into the winter months for more ideas!

August Getty AW15 Fashion Show Recap

Emerging from his debut as the youngest designer to ever show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week last season, women’s luxury ready-to-wear fashion designer August Getty is starting to gain familiarity with the runway as he showed his second collection at Lincoln Center on Friday. Reigning from Los Angeles, August Getty’s collection fit right into the New York fashion scene. Leather on leather on lace was defiantly the trend of the collection. Beautifully intricate laser cut leather and lace ensembles in sophisticated yet youthful silhouettes, brought true opulence to the fall season. Ebony black and small hits of fudge were the top color contenders of the collection. What made Getty’s collection so remarkable was his choice of technologically treated fabrications. The laminated lace fabric in Getty’s collection appeared like soft liquid silk on the model’s skin. Laser cut leather was another highlight as well as the small hints of velvet silk, prints and patchwork details.
Artisan craftsmanship courtesy of Getty’s atelier did not go unnoticed on the runway. The impeccable construction and drape of the leather ensembles showcased hints of couture technique and an eye for detail. Leather bell sleeved coats and crop tops were perfectly constructed, and the lace mastered a balance of both drape and structure on the moving body. Getty’s collection showed hints of 70’s vibes with bell sleeves, and a range of mini, mindi, and full length skirts and dresses. Getty also brought the collection back to the youthful clientele by pairing high-wasted shorts with long sleeved crop tops. More fall silhouette additions were leather and lace coats that could be interchangeably paired with the rest of the collection.
August Getty’s second fashion week collection showed true poise for such a young talent. Getty’s balance of youthful maturity has quickly captivated the fashion world and it will continue to do so. At the end of his inspiring show, the humble designer took a selfie of his name on the shows back drop, bringing laughs and a sense of light heartedness to the fashion crowd.

Product Review: Head & Shoulders Moisture Care Line

I first used Head & Shoulders years ago when my hair dresser suggested it to cure my dandruff. After my dandruff went away I stopped using it but always remembered how much I liked the shampoo and recommended it to others. Fast forward to now, I was so excited when I heard that Head & Shoulders was coming out with a new moisture care line. I had a positive either with their products in the past so I jumped at the opportunity to review the new line. The new collection is designed to provide enriched moisture for the scalp and is perfect for textured hair like mine.
I received the Moisture Care Shampoo, 2n1 Shampoo & conditioner, Co-wash, and scalp soother. Typically I Co-wash my hair and shampoo only when I need a deep clean but since I was too excited to wait, I used the 2n1 followed by the Co-wash.
Both products left my hair feeling soft and my scalp felling moisturized. After I was done, I finished my styling routine as usual then applied the scalp soother. As soon as I applied it, I could feel cooling sensation of the peppermint oil working. (more…)

3 Easy DIY Valentine’s Nail Designs

Over recent years, diy nail designs have become increasingly more popular. Whether you’re a nail pro or beginner, this Valentine’s Day is a great time to show some love by painting an easy design on your nails. Instead of going to the salon for your typical mani, try something new this season and paint your own nail design! Below are three simple DIY designs that even a nail newbie can follow!

Valentines Day tutorial1. Start by painting your nails with a light pink nail polish. Allow the nails to completely dry then follow up with a true red polish and small nail brush (an eyeliner brush would also work) to draw on the heart. TIP: If you’re having a hard time drawing on the heart, just do it on one finger as an accent nail!

2.  Create a beautiful ombre nail look with just a few supplies. Start of by painting your nails light pink. On a covered surface, mix one drop of the same pink and a darker pink shade together in the middle. Take a sponge and dab it into the polish then carefully apply to each finger. Finish off the look by dipping a cotton q-tip in nail polish remover and cleaning up the excess polish.
